How does it work? The product is liquid based and is sprayed directly over the body using an airgun and a compressor.
The sunless lotion contains the active ingredient DHA. DHA or dihydroxyacetone is a natural ingredient derived from sugar cane, which reacts with the amino acids in the uppermost layer of the skin causing it to turn brown. The reaction looks as natural as it is from the sun.
DHA has been used safely in cosmetics for over 30 years. How long will my tan last? The tan will last between 5 - 7 days depending on your skin type. Regular use of a tan extender/rejuvenator moisturiser will keep your tan alive and also prolong its life!
Once you have reached the required shade, an application once every 7-10 days will then maintain your personal colour effectively.
Every day, millions of dead skin cells are worn away from the surface of your skin. In fact, every 35 to 45 days, you have an entirely new epidermis. This is why tans from sunless or self-tanning lotions will gradually fade - as the dead cells are worn away, so is your tan. For this reason, it is suggested that you reapply your tan every 7-10 days to maintain your "tan".
How do I maintain my tan? "Wear" your tan carefully, and moisturise! If possible schedule tanning sessions weekly. Tan extenders / rejuvenator moisturisers will help maintain your tan. Avoid long hot baths and showers as this will speed up exfoliation. Pat your skin dry as rubbing your skin may rub off your tan. Avoid swimming pools as chlorine will bleach your tan. If you suffer with excess sweating on your feet, this my cause the tan to wear off quickly. Try wearing open shoes and using a spray of some kind to help with sweating. If you have areas affected with this you may try a tanning towelette or something similar to blend in where the tan has rubbed off.
